Who is Running for California’s Senate Seat?

With the election just under ten months away, US Senate candidates from California had their first debate.Ā 

The race includes five candidates from all over the state competing to take over the late Dianne Feinstein’s seat.Ā 

Who’s In the Race?Ā 

Although the debate included only four candidates, five people are vying to be the next US Senator from California.Ā 

The five candidates include:Ā 

  • Rep. Adam SchiffĀ 
  • Rep. Katie PorterĀ 
  • Rep. Barbara Lee
  • Eric EarlyĀ 
  • Steve GarveyĀ 

So, who are candidates?Ā 

Rep. Adam SchiffĀ 

Adam Schiff is currently a member of Congress, representing California’s 30th district. He made a name in the House of Representatives by leading the First House Impeachment Inquiry and Trial of former President Trump.Ā 

As a senator, his main priorities include:Ā 

  • Making Childcare AffordableĀ 
  • Increasing Competition and Reducing CostsĀ 
  • Creating a Robust Care EconomyĀ 
  • Making our Tax System FairerĀ 
  • Expanding the Social Safety Net for Vulnerable FamiliesĀ 
  • Lowering the Cost of EducationĀ 
  • Reforming the Supreme CourtĀ 
  • Abolishing the FilibusterĀ

Rep. Katie PorterĀ 

Katie Porter is currently a member of Congress, representing California’s 47th district. She was first elected in 2018 and has been the top-performing Democrat in a traditional Republican Orange County.Ā 

As a Senator, her main priorities include:Ā

  • Unrig the EconomyĀ 
  • HealthcareĀ 
  • Public Safety & Gun ViolenceĀ 
  • Empower WorkersĀ 
  • Climate CrisisĀ 
  • Clean Up CorruptionĀ 
  • Racial Justice & Freedom for AllĀ

Rep. Barbara LeeĀ 

Barbera Lee is currently a member of Congress, representing California’s 12th district. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Policy and Steering Committee, while also serving on the Budget Committee and the Appropriations Committee.Ā 

As a Senator, her main priorities include:Ā 

  • Health Care for AllĀ 
  • Climate Action

Eric EarlyĀ 

Eric Early is a co-owner and Managing Partner of a law firm. Early was the only candidate to not appear on the debate stage. His endorsements include many of the local GOP chambers in California.Ā 

As a senator, Early’s priorities would include:Ā 

  • Cut regulations that affect job creation and entrepreneurshipĀ Ā 
  • Stand up to ā€˜far left’ idealsĀ 
  • Protect and Preserve Our DemocracyĀ

Steve GarveyĀ 

Steve Garvey is a former baseball player for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his post-baseball career, he has been a champion for those disabled or suffering from disease. He has assisted in causes such as diabetes, Special Olympics, Multiple Sclerosis, and ALS.Ā 

Steve’s priorities as a senator would include:Ā 

  • Solving the Homelessness CrisisĀ 
  • Improving the Californian’s Quality of LifeĀ 
  • Addressing Crime and Public SafetyĀ 
  • Supporting Israel and UkraineĀ 
  • Reforming ImmigrationĀ 
  • Prioritizing Water ManagementĀ 
  • Empowering California’s Agricultural HeartlandĀ 
  • Championing Environmental StewardshipĀ 
  • Elevating our Education System
