How BIDs Can Help Property Teams Address Safety and Homelessness
Property teams can have strong security procedures inside their buildings, but many of the issues affecting tenants, employees, and visitors begin outside the property line.
Homelessness-related activity, street conditions, vandalism, public safety incidents, and other neighborhood concerns can quickly become building operations issues. Property managers and security teams are often expected to respond, but they cannot address every issue on their own.
That is where Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) and other local partners can play an important role.
BIDs often serve as a connection point between properties and the larger neighborhood. Depending on the area, they may provide safety teams, outreach services, cleaning programs, incident reporting, and coordination with city departments and law enforcement.
For property teams, knowing who to call, what information to share, and when to involve a BID or another local partner can make the response to an incident faster and more coordinated.
Just as important, these relationships should be built before an emergency happens. Regular communication can help property teams understand what is happening around their buildings, identify recurring problems, share information across neighboring properties, and connect people experiencing homelessness with appropriate outreach resources.
Bringing Property Teams and Local Partners Together
On September 23rd, our Security & Emergency Preparedness Committee will bring members together with Suzanne Holley of the DTLA Alliance and Anthony Rodriguez of the LA Fashion District BID for Keeping Buildings Safe by Working With BIDs and Local Groups.
The conversation will focus on practical ways property managers, operations teams, and security professionals can work with BIDs and community partners to respond to incidents, address homelessness-related activity, share information, and strengthen safety around their properties.
