What BOMA/GLA Members Learned at DTLA’s Flagship District Energy Plant

Sustainability Committee Tour

Last Friday, our Sustainability Committee spent the afternoon doing what our members do best: learning, connecting, and exploring innovative solutions shaping commercial real estate.

Committee members toured CenTrio's Bunker Hill Plant, the flagship district energy facility that has been helping serve Downtown Los Angeles buildings since 1968.

The facility currently provides chilled water service to 10 buildings throughout DTLA and plays an important role in supporting building operations and efficiency across the urban core.

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Critical Infrastructure

The tour offered members a rare opportunity to step behind the scenes and see critical infrastructure in action.

Attendees learned how district energy systems operate, discussed the role centralized cooling plays in supporting building performance, and explored how these systems can help create long-term value for building owners and operators.

The Value of Member Connections

Beyond the technical insights, the tour also highlighted one of the greatest strengths of BOMA/GLA membership: the opportunity to learn directly from industry experts while building relationships with fellow commercial real estate professionals.

Members exchanged ideas, asked thoughtful questions, and shared experiences from their own properties throughout the afternoon, creating valuable conversations that extended beyond the tour itself.

Why Committee Engagement Matters

Experiences like this are what make BOMA/GLA committees such a valuable resource for members.

By bringing together industry professionals and providing access to unique educational opportunities, our committees help members stay informed, build meaningful connections, and gain practical knowledge they can apply in their day-to-day work.

Thank You to CenTrio

A special thank you to CenTrio for hosting our Sustainability Committee and providing an informative and engaging behind-the-scenes look at the infrastructure that helps keep Downtown Los Angeles running.
