City of LA Parking Occupancy Tax Proposal: Latest Updates

Word,Tax,On,Coin,Stacks

Los Angeles is moving quickly on new tax proposals that could significantly impact how commercial buildings operate. We urge members to stay engaged on these tax proposals and support our advocacy efforts to oppose them.

What You Need to Know

A proposed Parking Occupancy Tax increase—from 10% to 15%—is advancing at City Hall.

LA City's Budget and Finance Committee voted to instruct the City Attorney to prepare the ballot language for the June 2026 ballots.

We valued our ongoing dialogue with the Budget and Finance Committee members and respectfully urged the Committee to prioritize budget solutions that stabilize and grow the City’s tax base, rather than adopting policies that risk accelerating commercial decline.

We expect this tax to be in front of the entire city council for a floor vote within the month.

Use our Action Center to tell the LA City Council to oppose these taxes.

How It Impacts You

Our letter of opposition to the Budget and Finance Committee points out that raising the Parking Occupancy Tax would discourage economic activity in fragile commercial districts, compound the impacts of existing taxes like Measure ULA, and work against efforts to restore foot traffic, employment density, and long-term revenue growth.
