A New Adaptive Reuse Study for DTLA to Consider

The Central City Association (CCA) recently shared a study showing that turning offices into housing would boost the economy, create jobs, and new housing.
These findings support flexible code implementation and incentives, offering our members additional options to consider.
What You Need to Know
According to CCA, turning just 10 DTLA buildings into housing over 10 years could add $12 billion in property value, $2 billion in economic activity, and create thousands of new homes.
For example, creating 17,000 jobs.
CCA’s study urges LA to update rules and offer financial incentives to speed up office-to-housing conversions because strict affordability rules can make projects too costly.
These findings back the new Adaptive Reuse Ordinance and efforts to update zoning, incentives, and building rules.
How It Impacts You
CCA believes their data shows it makes sense for DTLA to support adaptive reuse.
However, without updating old building and fire codes, projects could get stuck.
If the city decides to make more incentives and flexible code, properties can then decide if adaptive reuse is the best option for them in the current market condition.
