BOMA/GLA Engages with Long Beach City Leadership on 2028 Olympics

BOMA/GLA members met with the Long Beach City Manager’s Office to provide input on Olympic preparations and ensure the commercial real estate industry’s needs are represented—proactive engagement that reflects our commitment to advocating for how this global event will impact our properties, tenants, and communities.
What You Need to Know
The City of Long Beach outlined its role in the Games, including:
-
Global Impact: Long Beach will be on the world stage, welcoming millions of visitors across 17 of 18 Olympic days. Events such as beach volleyball, sailing, rowing, handball, and water polo will draw international attention and visitors to the city.
-
Operational Planning: The City is working with LA28 on agreements covering venues, services, and resources. Planning milestones stretch from now through 2027, with testing and readiness exercises scheduled before the Games begin in July 2028.
-
Community Engagement: A Strategic Roadmap emphasizes equity, public safety, and lasting legacy. Efforts will include local business activations, cultural showcases, fan zones, and long-term investment through the Long Beach Legacy Fund.
How It Impacts You
BOMA/GLA members asked targeted questions on how the Olympics might affect property operations, opportunities for partnership, and ways commercial real estate can add value to this global event. Key points raised included:
-
Ensuring safe and smooth operations for properties during high visitor influx.
-
Identifying opportunities for CRE to host activations, watch parties, or team headquarters.
-
Exploring long-term benefits for buildings and businesses through city partnerships.
