Long Beach Approves Minimum Wage Increase for Tourism Workers

Long_Beach_City_Council

The Long Beach City Council has approved a minimum wage increase for tourism workers. This will include those working at the Long Beach airport, Convention Center, Queen Mary, and the upcoming amphitheater.

What You Need to Know

Once the new ordinance is finalized, the increase will be $23/hour. With plans for it to reach $29.50/hour by 2028.

It will also now cover temporary workers as well.

This ordinance must pass two more City Council readings before it takes effect.

How It Impacts You

For property managers near tourism sites, this new law could raise costs and impact vendor contracts.

Vendors such as janitorial services may need to adjust their pricing in response to the new wage requirements.

This wage increase could lead to more wage hikes at nearby venues and across the tourism industry. Especially with the Olympics on the horizon.
