Commercial Permitting Reform Bill Advances in State Senate
Good news for California's commercial real estate industry: AB 2418 is one step closer to becoming law.
Last week, our Director of Government and Public Affairs Christopher Bowen testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of AB 2418, our co-sponsored legislation to help streamline permitting for commercial tenant improvement projects.
The bill once again received unanimous support, marking another major milestone in the legislative process.
After previously passing the State Assembly without a single "no" vote, AB 2418 has now also cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously.
The bill now advances to the Senate Appropriations Committee, followed by a vote of the full Senate, Assembly concurrence, and ultimately the Governor's desk.
If enacted, AB 2418 would help modernize the commercial permitting process by encouraging more efficient review timelines for tenant improvement projects. Which would help with reducing delays, supporting investment, and helping businesses occupy commercial space more quickly.
BOMA/GLA is proud to have helped shape this legislation alongside our partners and to continue advocating for practical, business-friendly policies that improve how California's commercial buildings are developed and operated.
Thank you to Assemblymember Mark González for authoring this important bill, and to our coalition partners at the California Business Properties Association (CBPA) for their continued leadership throughout the legislative process.
We'll continue keeping members informed as AB 2418 moves through its final stages in the Legislature.
