BOMA/GLA Lands in Sacramento to Advocate for CRE
BOMA/GLA has officially landed in Sacramento!
This week, our members are stepping away from their buildings and businesses to bring the voice of Greater Los Angeles commercial real estate directly to state lawmakers.
That matters because legislators need to hear more than statistics- they need to hear from the people who experience the impact of state policy every day.
The California Commercial Real Estate Summit brings industry leaders together at the Capitol for direct conversations about the legislation affecting how we operate, improve, lease, and invest in commercial properties.
What We're Doing in Sacramento
1. Fighting for faster commercial permitting.
One of our biggest priorities is AB 2418.
The bill would give qualifying commercial tenant improvement projects another option when local plan checks exceed 50 business days.
Long permitting delays can keep tenants from opening, expanding, or occupying their spaces, and our members know firsthand what those delays mean for buildings.
2. Pushing back on costly mandates.
We will also be talking with lawmakers about proposals that could increase operating and construction costs for commercial properties. That includes opposing AB 2313, which raises concerns about forced electrification, utility costs, and reduced flexibility for property owners and tenants.
3. Making sure CRE has a seat at the table.
Most importantly, we're building relationships. Our members will meet directly with legislators and their staff to explain how decisions made in Sacramento translate into real costs, delays, and challenges at properties throughout Greater Los Angeles.
The goal isn't just to advocate on one bill- it is to make sure lawmakers know who to call when the next commercial real estate issue comes before them.
Advocacy Doesn't Stop When We Leave Sacramento
