New Culver City Parcel Tax Measure Heads to November Ballot

Culver City

The Culver City City Council has voted to place a new parcel tax measure to support public schools on the November ballot. If approved by voters, it could significantly increase costs for commercial property owners.

The measure would apply a $0.48 per building square foot annual parcel tax on all real estate parcels, including commercial properties, for the next 10 years.

What You Need to Know

Unlike many school parcel taxes that charge a flat fee per property, this proposal is based on the size of a building.

That means larger commercial buildings could face substantially higher annual tax bills, although the measure includes a maximum annual tax of $15,000 per parcel.

Senior exemptions, independent financial oversight, and annual audits are also included in the proposal.

How It Impacts You

We remain concerned about the growing number of local tax proposals that increase the cost of owning and operating commercial real estate.

As property owners continue to face higher operating costs, insurance premiums, utility expenses, and regulatory requirements, additional parcel taxes can further impact building operations, leasing decisions, and long-term investment.

We will continue monitoring this measure and keep members informed as the November election approaches.
