BOMA/GLA Meets with Supervisor Janice Hahn’s Office to Elevate CRE Priorities

BOMA/GLA advocacy staff recently met with Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn’s office to discuss key issues in District 4. Led with the help of our Long Beach/South Bay Regional Council Chair, the conversation focused on how County decisions impact commercial properties, tenants, and local communities.
What You Need to Know
During the conversation, BOMA/GLA raised core issues:
Energy Efficiency & Incentives: The County is considering a Building Performance Standard for existing buildings over 50,000 sq ft and will adopt stricter CALGreen codes starting in 2026. We urged leaders to prioritize rebates, technical support, and education to help property owners comply.
Homelessness, Safety & Transit: We highlighted the effects of homelessness and safety challenges on CRE corridors and tenants. Our ask: ensure the commercial property perspective is included in planning for services, funding, and transit investments.
How It Impacts You
For our members, these conversations help protect your properties and shape the business environment.
By engaging with County leaders, we can provide insights on upcoming policies, like building decarbonization rules and updated CALGreen standards to members.
As well as advocate the elected for expanded rebates and technical support programs to make retrofits and upgrades more affordable for members.
At the same time, we aim to raise CRE concerns to ensure public safety, homelessness response, and transit planning consider the needs of property managers, tenants, and business districts.
Looking Ahead
We hope to continue positioning the commercial real estate industry as a trusted partner for policymakers—while ensuring your voice is heard in decisions that affect operations, costs, and community impact.
