Hollywood/Wilshire Regional Council Showcases Entertainment Industry’s Role in Local CRE

The Hollywood/Wilshire Regional Council hosted a panel discussion on the importance of the entertainment industry for commercial real estate in the greater Hollywood area.
Panelists included:
- Head of the LA County Film Office, LA County Department of Economic Opportunity (LA County DEO) Gary Smith
- Film LA Vice President of Integrated Communications, Philip Sokoloski
- District Director for Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, Michelle Persoff
The panel was graciously hosted by Kilroy Realty at their Columbia Square property and moderated by Hollywood Regional Council Chair Joseph Mariani of Bardas.
Over a dozen high profile commercial real estate professionals from the Hollywood region heard about the Hollywood Film Tax Credit bills (SB 630 and AB 1138) championed by Asm. Isaac Bryan, Asm. Zbur, and Senator Ben Allen.
These bills were recently endorsed by the BOMA/GLA Government Affairs Committee due to the need to bring back entertainment jobs to Hollywood.
The panel also covered film permitting and how residents can be part of the enticement process to bring those entertainment jobs back to LA.
Many of these entertainment jobs left Los Angeles for Georgia, New Mexico and even other countries. Mr. Sokoloski from Film LA highlighted that we have the existing infrastructure like soundstages & production offices, we just need to bring them back.
In the wake of the Fires, the LA County Department of Economic Opportunity is encouraging commercial real estate owners and mangers to participate in the B2B program which provides spaces for small businesses to operate and recover from the Eaton fire.
